Bike Updates

My Scott CR1 is toast. It was making terrible creaking noises on my last ride to the coast and by the time I got back to Palo Alto the crank was banging against the frame. Turns out the Bottom Bracket Shell has come apart from the carbon bottom bracket area. This should be a warranty job as it has happened to many people it turns out after a quick internet check. I need to work hard to get an Addict R1 and not some cheaper job as they will probably try to stick me with one of their lower end bikes. Right now the bike is in the shop being taken apart and hopefully replaced quickly.

I also picked up a Cervelo P2C a couple of weeks ago and am getting used to riding it. Based on my local time trials, this bike is way faster than my road bikes and I beat one of my old benchmarks by more than 2 minutes. The question will be how it feels to ride for longer rides as I have not taken it out on a long ride yet.

Maybe Richard was right about the Scott bike. You've put what, 10K miles on it? Did the frame itself crack, or just the BB housing come apart?

Just the BB Housing. He was probably right. To get that light they must take some compromises that cause issues like this. The number of people this has happened too is pretty high. The shop I took this into knows of 4 cases alone!

So are you going to upgrade it to a higher Scott model? To my surprise, you seem to ride the Scott much more than your snooty French bike, which I would have guessed to be a better ride.
Interesting...I seriously believe that Scott brand bicycles have issues with their bottom brackets. Faulty design? Cheap-o bottom bracket/housing? Your post sounds exactly like 2 older men I know who ride the same bike, and problem you do.

I wonder about the total amount of people that have had this problem with Scott bicycles.....

Hope the best for your bicycle!

Hoping I get an upgrade for nothing as Scott is known for being good about covering issues like this. Lots of people have had this issue with the CR1 based on some internet searches. Hopefully they have fixed this with the Addict.

I like the Time bike, but I feel like I can climb better on the Scott. I need to get out this weekend and crank up a hill on the time bike ... I ran 25 miles last weekend and was so wrecked I have not ridden the bike since Fri ;)
